In April, the state will begin accepting applications from homeowners for grants of up to $30,000 to eliminate or reduce past-due mortgage and property tax payments through the Illinois Homeowner Assistance Fund (ILHAF) program. Homeowners are strongly encouraged to attend an ILHAF Information Session hosted by Illinois Housing Development Authority before the application portal opens. The sessions will provide a road map for the application process. Topics will include:
- Mortgage basics
- Foreclosure process
- The ILHAF application process and program eligibility
- Other available free resources, including housing counseling and legal aid
