NBC News’ Dateline recently aired a powerful and thought-provoking one hour long special that culminated a months-long, in-depth report on the growing homeless epidemic affecting half a million Americans. NBC News’ Craig Melvin’s report, City of Angels, aired Sunday, August 19 and featured an eye-opening tour of Skid Row, the nation’s epicenter of homelessness. Melvin spoke with California residents of the San Fernando Valley and Venice who are struggling to deal with the influx of homeless people into residential neighborhoods, and Los Angeles Times award-winning columnist Steve Lopez, who writes extensively about the crisis.
