Applications for the Illinois Homeowner Assistance Fund (ILHAF) will be accepted beginning Monday, April 11, 2022. The application portal will remain open until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2022.

ILHAF program information, updates and a list of documents required to apply can be found at illinoishousinghelp.org. Households who are behind on their mortgage or related housing payments should not wait to prepare and are encouraged to learn about the application process, gather their required documents, and connect with their mortgage servicer or a housing counselor as soon as possible.

Prior to being eligible to apply, potential applicants must demonstrate they have either communicated with their mortgage provider about their inability to pay or sought counseling with a HUD-approved counseling organization. The U.S. Department of the Treasury views this assistance to be used as a “last resort,” so any application without proof of counseling will be declined. A list of eligible housing counseling agencies can be found here who stand ready to assist.

Interested homeowners are also strongly encouraged view or attend an information session hosted by IHDA or one of our housing partners to learn what you need to do to be ready to apply. The information sessions will be offered in English and Spanish. Here is a schedule where you may register for one of the sessions:
