Starting this month, eligible Illinois residents can enroll for a monthly discount on their natural gas bills. The variable Illinois Low-Income Discount Rate program is based on household income and will automatically be applied to Nicor Gas customers’ natural gas bills when they are approved for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Discounts will range from 5 percent to 75 percent of the total bill based on their household size and income. Household with income between 201 percent and 300 percent can apply for a 5 percent discount directly through Nicor Gas.
Households that received LIHEAP benefits during the last program year will automatically begin receiving a Nicor gas discount starting on their October bill received in November until they apply again this year. For the 5% discount, please contact Nicor Gas at 1-888-642-6748 or www.nicorgas.com.
